Denali Nanuq resides near Juneau, Alaska, within the Tongass National Forest, and is of Tlingit heritage. While he did not complete a degree, he studied Wilderness Survival and Outdoor Recreation at the University of Alaska Southeast. He moved on to earn certifications in glacier travel, ice climbing safety, first aid, and wilderness emergency response. He works as an ice cave guide for a well-known adventure tour company, which is renowned for its Mendenhall Glacier exploration, kayaking, and other outdoor wilderness adventures. He has a twin brother, Kova, who also works for the same adventure company.

Denali is 6'1" with long, straight, black hair and black eyes. He is muscular and trim, and wearing full gear, he can look large and imposing (like his namesake big bear). Denali is a natural extrovert, outgoing, and makes friends easily, often seen joking and smiling. He is very empathetic, informal, warm, and welcoming, easily putting strangers (or tourists) at ease.

Denali is inspired by natural beauty and frequently expresses his emotions through words or the music of a small wooden flute he always has in his gear bag. He can also be passionate about projects he supports and intensely loyal to friends, family, or those he believes need protecting. He throws his whole heart into relationships, and sometimes ends up heartbroken when he becomes more invested in a relationship than the other person, whom he has idealized. For this reason, he sometimes fears emotional abandonment and struggles to make sure he doesn't become possessive or jealous of those who need independence.
